(Uruguay).- The National Lotteries and Quinielas Directorate blocked 178 betting sites on the Internet, according to the Annual Report on Government Management presented to the Legislative Branch.

"It continues with the blocking of websites that offer Internet bets that do not have the license granted by the State for exploitation, having blocked 178 sites during this year 2018," the document said.
Due to this measure, Supermatch - the only legal online betting site, enabled and exploited by the State - has registered a greater number of players, the director of Lotteries and Quinielas, Luis Gama, had told.
In turn, the Accountability enabled Lotteries and Quinielas to directly exploit the online lottery game. On this point, the provision establishes that 10% of the total collection of bets will be used to finance the administration, operation, control and supervision expenses of this game modality (the rest will be destined to General Income).
In this regard, Gama had pointed out that "many countries in the world use this means of payment" and that they are already evaluating how to implement it at a technical level. "We want a person to be able to enter our page and buy their lottery number without problems, both from Uruguay and from another country. You have to be aware of the new channels," he added.
On the other hand, according to the Annual Report, the management deepened "the tasks of inspection and control ensuring a more effective audit and linked to the needs of agents and gamblers. Creating new forms of control such as Selective Payment Acts".
In that sense, "by the year 2018 had been planned 1.320 inspections, having reached the goal", when in 2017 "891 performances were made", he said.
At the same time, procedures were facilitated that "can be done both through the institutional website (loteria.gub.uy) and the State Portal (tramites.gub.uy)," the document said.
Among these procedures are the "receipt of complaints from gamblers, game vendors and citizens in general", "requests for authorization to hold contests, raffles or competitions to be made by telephone," "requests for authorization of raffles "And" receipt of requests for certificates of collection of awards "and" requests for access to information ".
